Katie K.

Hello! My name is Kateryna Kuksenok, though I more frequently go by Katie Kuksenok. At the moment, I am a research Intern at Carnegie Mellon University Human-Computer Interaction, working with Jennifer Mankoff on a variety of things that have to do with the Chronic Web project. I just graduated from Oberlin College, and so this fall I will begin pursuing a PhD at University of Washington Computer Science and Engineering Department.

If you came here looking for an answer to a question, I hope I was able to provide it; and, if not, drop me a line at katie dot kuksenok at gmail, and I will be happy to address it.

Research Interests

I am particularly interested in Human-Computer Interaction and Machine Learning research. For a little more than a year now, I have been intensely involved with an HCI project (Chronic Web) at CMU HCII. The work I did, as well as the atmosphere of HCII, parked my interest in HCI research. As I am studying both Computer Science and Applied Mathematics, Machine Learning also appeals to me. Since it can be useful not only in data analysis, but also in construction and design of interactive, "smart" systems, I intend to incorporate ML and HCI in future research projects. Through HCI and ML research, I want to further explore the social context and impact of technology, focusing on designing intelligent interactive systems that reflect theories of human behavior and improve the usefulness of computation by making the power of computers more accessible in everyday life.
